Dietz was reportedly already in attendance at the Senators game as a fan, and when he got the call to get his gear, he literally sprinted to collect his gear in below freezing temperatures.
Some fans driving by noticed the man running holding a back of gear and goalie pads outside the Canadian Tire Centre, and thought it to be strange enough to take a video.
There's been no clear explanation for why Dietz had to run, as opposed to driving or taking an uber, but it's just an incredible sight to see a normal player put in 100% dedication just to sniff the NHL.
The Senators were supposed to start Anton Forsberg tonight, but after tweaking something in warmups, the team turned to Linus Ullmark and called Dietz from the University of Ottawa as their emergency backup goalies.
Dietz didn't need to make an appearance in tonight's game as Ullmark thankfully was able to get through playing back to back games. If Dietz was called upon though, he was definitely warmed up and ready to play.
Hockey fans everywhere are loving the commitment from Dietz, and it's truly a great experience for himself as well to watch an NHL game from the bench and hang out with the team.
It'll be an experience Dietz remembers forever, and this video of him running along the highway with his gear is a perfect visual explanation of the drive from hockey players.
