Jagr went to social media to announce that he won't be participating in any preseason games and potentially the beginning of the regular season due to a torn hamstring.
Jagr had been vocal this summer about training hard to appear in as many games as possible in his 36th season of professional hockey. Now 52 years old, it's obvious that he doesn't have much longer left in his career and it may finally be time to hang up the skates. After only playing 15 games last season and scoring just 4 assists, Jagr was hoping this year would be much better so he could end his career on a high note. Last month, Jagr confirmed that this season would be his last with the Kladno Knights, meaning he would finally be retiring.
Jaromir Jagr is arguably a top three hockey player of all time, and his incredibly long career mirrors that of only Gordie Howe. From 1990 to 2018, Jagr played an incredible 1733 career games, scoring 766 goals and 1921 points - second to only Wayne Gretzky. On top of that, he's had a long international career that's kept him playing up until this year.
When he officially retires, Jagr will be a first ballot choice to the Hockey Hall of Fame. It will be an incredible moment to have him back in the NHL, and on good terms after making up with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. Hockey fans around the world will celebrate Jagr's career when it's all said and done - but hopefully he can get healthy for one more quality year.
