Throughout the entire game, many of Carter's teammates were trying to find ways to give him the puck in hopes to give him a great send off by scoring a goal. At 9:04 of the third period they achieved their goal as Carter was able to score tying up the game 4-4.
Unfortunately, the Penguins were unable to win the game as they lost 5-4. But in a great show of respect for the 39-year-old veteran, the New York Islanders players lined up and shook his hand congratulating him on a fantastic career.
After the game, Carter spoke to the media giving his thoughts on scoring in his final game.
He was drafted in 2003 by the Philadelphia Flyers, in the first-round 11th overall. He had played 1321 games, with 440 two goals and 409 assists for 851 points and is a + 9. He had stops in Philadelphia, Columbus, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champ winner when he spent his time with the Los Angeles Kings and he also won the gold medal for Canada in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
We wish Mr Carter all the best in his new chapter.
