Marc-Andre Fleury confirms his retirement date in new interview
Earlier today, the legendary Marc-Andre Fleury signed a one year contract extension with the Minnesota Wild, but it also came with the sad announcement of his retirement at the end of next season.
I've been asked a lot, by fans, media, friends, family: what's next for me? It's good just to settle, and I don't have to talk about it for another year, but next year will be my last.
All of Hockey will dearly miss Marc-Andre Fleury when he retires at the end of next season. Not only is he a living legend of a goaltender, but he's one of the most beloved personalities in the NHL. At 39 years of age, Fleury is still keeping up with the young guys in the league both on the ice and off. Just a few weeks ago, Fleury was making headlines for his prank fights with a few teammates.
Fleury is an easy first-ballot hall of fame goalie, and will likely go down as one of the best of all time. He's got two Stanley Cup Victories, a Vezina Trophy, a 17 year playoff streak, and is one of four goalies to play 1000 games or more in the NHL. This season was the first slightly down year for Fleury performance wise, but otherwise throughout his career, he's been the epitome of an elite goaltender.
It's great that Fleury will have a proper retirement tour next season, and be able to compete for one more year. All hockey fans will wish the best for Fleury this season and into retirement!
