The Los Angeles Kings are expected to rebrand themselves this year with a new logo and jersey, and today while announcing a blockbuster trade, they accidentally leaked their logo.

In a post thanking Pierre-Luc Dubois for his time with the Kings, the team used a new logo prominently for the first time in social media posts.

It's a rework of the logo the Kings used in the Gretzky era, but with a dark base and silver outline, and it also includes the outline of the current shield-type logo. Honestly, it's a great design that harkens to their incredible vintage look in a modernized way.

It's absolutely hilarious however that this is how the Kings revealed their new logo for the first time. It has to be an accident, because trading a massive contract mistake isn't the way you'd expect a team to reveal their re-brand - at the same time, it's quite fitting.

The Kings trading Pierre-Luc Dubois today came as a shock to many hockey fans. Dubois signed an eight year contract for $68M just last offseason, but the Kings were so shocked by his level of play that the team was forced to find a way out of the contract quickly. In a one for one deal with Washington, they did themselves of the Dubois contract entirely, and acquired a much-needed starting goalie in Darcy Kuemper.

With this blockbuster trade coming before the draft and free agency, the Los Angeles Kings will be hard at work this offseason trying to better their team. After being bounced by the Oilers in the first round for three straight years, the Kings needed to try something - and a blockbuster trade and jersey rebrand is a great way to start off.
