Ovechkin was recently pictured with some friends playing Padel Tennis, and fans are concerned about Ovechkin's conditioning for the upcoming season.
Ovechkin has always been an absolute unit of a man, measuring in last season at 6'3 and 236 pounds. Thats not much different from 2018 with his Stanley Cup win, but when comparing side by side, it looks like Ovechkin is much older and a little out of shape. Here's an interview from January of 2018, just months before Ovechkin own the Cup.
Ovechkin clearly looks a bit more out of shape today, and that's causing serious concern among fans for his conditioning the next two seasons. Ovechkin is only 41 goals behind Gretzky for all time career goals, and with two years left, he should be able to surpass him - as long has he's still actually playing and a decent player.
Still, Ovechkin has always been built as one of the widest and strongest players in the NHL. Ovechkin has the raw talent to play his style of hockey in his body type, like Phil Kessel did similarly. As long as Ovechkin can keep up the pace he did last season and play out the final years of his contract, he will be immortalized as the NHL's best goal scorer of all time.
