As the St. Louis Blues continue to fall out of the playoff race, reports have surfaced that they're taking calls on forward Pavel Buchnevich, who may end up being the best player available at this year's trade deadline. As a star offensive player capable of a point per game pace and under contract for two seasons at just $5.8M, the Blues will command a ransom for Buchnevich.

According to a report from Chris Johnston, the Blues will be asking for a similar package as Lindholm in trade; that being a first round pick, two prospects, and an NHL ready player. It's a steep price to pay which has already led some teams to back out of talks, but it could be worth it for an affordable star player.

If the Edmonton Oilers were to meet the demands of the Blues in a trade, it could potentially involve Warren Foegele and rising prospects like Tyler Tullio and Raphael Lavoie. It could be possible that the Blues would demand a higher profile prospect like goaltender Olivier Rodrigue or defenceman Philip Broberg.

It would be an exorbitant price to pay in a trade, but it could be worth it for Pavel Buchnevich if he can bring a missing element needed to the Oilers. There's no question that he's an elite player and could be an offensive weapon, just if he is the right fit for the needs of this team. To acquire an elite forward at an affordable price for two playoff runs is incredibly enticing to the Oilers - we'll have to see if they want Buchnevich bad enough to pay up.
