Moments ago, news broke that the NHL's Board of Governors have approved four rule changes that were introduced at this year's General Manager meetings.

The first rule will see coaches allowed to challenge puck-over-glass calls, only to prevent a player from being assessed a wrongful penalty.

The second rule will allow players to get a warning before being waved out of a faceoff in the offensive zone after an incoming call. On the Edmonton Oilers, that should seriously help Leon Draisaitl.

The third rule will now see goalies charged with inadvertently knocking the net off. If that happens, the team on offence can choose the faceoff side, and the defensive team can't change.

The fourth rule will see players assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty for hanging over the boards before a line change. At first players will be warned, and can be assessed a penalty if it happens again.

All these rules are welcome changes for the NHL and its fans, and each one addresses a small part of the game that needed work. It's good to see the league be proactive and make these changes, and hopefully the game continues to evolve along with the elite new talent entering the NHL.
