Draisaitl is entering the final year of his contract with the Oilers, and is eligible to sign an extension as of July 1st. He was asked about his intentions on signing with the team, and gave a business answer.
Draisaitl continued to add that he loves being an Oiler more than anything, and at this belief is at an all time high that the Oilers can win the Stanley Cup. Draisaitl didn't commit to re-signing in Edmonton, but that would hurt his bargaining position
Yesterday, Chris Johnston of the Athletic reported that the Oilers are making it an absolute priority to re-sign Draisaitl this offseason, but if he hesitates and draws out the process, the team will be prepared to move him. It'd be a tough reality and worst case scenario, but the Oilers can't lose Draisaitl for nothing in free agency.
Hopefully for the Oilers and their fans, Draisaitl has made a connection to Edmonton and the Oilers as his home, and decides to re-sign and finish the job of winning here. If he loves being an Oiler more than anything, Draisaitl won't be going anywhere.
