Oilers get roasted and Evander Kane isn't happy at award show
Last night, ESPN hosted their annual Espy's award show. Comedian Nikki Glaser was hosting, and took aim at the Edmonton Oilers for the butt end of some jokes.
»Nothing will stand in the way of these incredible athletes and their pursuit of greatness. . . except the Florida Panthers. Boy, Connor, that must have hurt to lose a game of ice hockey to a place that doesn't even have ice. For now, the only Stanley Cup Connor will get to hold is the one his wife asked him to grab out of the cabinet!»
- Nikki Glasser
The camera cut to Evander Kane while the audience was laughing at the expense of the Oilers, and he looked like he was biting his tongue hearing all this doubt about his team. The Oilers have been mocked and counted out before, and they always prove everyone wrong.
Connor McDavid wasn't in attendance for the award show, but for the third straight year he received the award for best overall NHL player - to no one's surprise.
The Oilers gained a valuable experience last season with their deepest playoff run in the McDavid era, and proved to themselves and the league that their talent and team is never out of a game. Next season the Oilers will be intensely motivated and better than ever, in a prime position to make another run at the Stanley Cup - and win it next time.
