Referee drills Brad Marchand with massive hit
In the last ten minutes of an extremely high stakes third period between the Leafs and Bruins, a hilarious sight occurred that plenty of hockey fans will love.
Battle for a puck near the blue line, both
Pontus Holmberg and
Brad Marchand were assessed penalties for roughing, but the best part about it was when the referee moved in to break up the play. Hilariously, the referee decked Brad Marchand to the ice.
It was a hilarious sight, as Marchand was knocked to the ice hard, and then looked up towards the referee with an expression that simply says: «What?» Plenty of fans took to social media to laugh at the absurdity of the situation, and celebrate the fact that it was the Rat that took the hit from the referee.
Earlier in the game, the Bruins and referees started to get tense as more penalties were called, with Bruins announcer Jack Edwards even calling the referees cowards. Certainly, seeing Brad Marchand decked out by the referee like this won't help the relationship at all - but it is objectively hilarious.
The Leafs are battling elimination tonight with the game now heading to overtime. Likely about to be eliminated in the first round for the 7th time in 8 years, this Maple Leafs core is officially done - the new general manager Brad Treliving will have the green light to move off their star forwards.
