The Senators have been on the other side of this before. Tonight at the end of the game, Devils forward Nico Hischier put the puck into an empty net after time ran out, and Brady Tkachuk charged him.

Hischier as carrying the puck towards the Senators zone as time expired, and he shot the puck in the net well after the game was over. It's a sign of disrespect to put the puck in the net after the whistle, especially to close the game. The Senators have seen this themselves before, when Ridly Greig slapped a puck into the Leafs empty net to seal the game. Greig's was more a clear taunt, but still here, Tkachuk realized that Hischier broke the code and charged him.

Tkachuk and the Senators didn't do much other than form a big scrum with the Devils. At the end of another lost season right off the bat, it's good to see the team still engaged and arguably playing their best hockey of the year, but it's all for naught - they seem perpetually stuck in the bottom of the standings.

We'll have to see next year if this late season push from the Senators means anything for the team next year, or if they'll eliminate themselves from the playoffs in the first month again. Perhaps Brady Tkachuck won't put up with this much losing for much longer.
