This afternoon, Canadian hockey reporter Christine Simpson announced that Sportsnet would not be renewing her for the upcoming season.

Simpson took to social media and expressed great disappointment of leaving Sportsnet. She noted she was grateful for her time, but is now looking toward future opportunities.

Simpson began working for Sportsnet when the channel launched in 1998, and has been known for her rinkside reporting and in-depth one on one interviews. Through her career of more than 20 years, she's ventured into different sports and American Hockey Channels, but returned to Sportsnet in 2011 and has been there since. Sportsnet put out a brief statement confirming the decision to let her go, and taking her for her contributions.

More than a few prominent hockey media members responded online with some criticism towards Sportsnet for letting Simpson go. Many fans chimed in as well, who have been highest appreciative of her in-depth player interviews.

Christine Simpson has a long legacy in hockey coverage, and she'll surely bounce back with a new and better opportunity, even at 59 years old. Hopefully she's able to get back in the business this year, but if not, fans will be excited for her return next year.
