With a goal and two assists already halfway through Game 5, Connor McDavid has cemented himself as the most clutch playoff player ever, and may be having the best playoff in NHL history.

Connor McDavid has the highest points-per-game average in NHL history when facing elimination.

With their backs against the wall this year and in past playoffs, McDavid has produced at the highest rate per game in NHL history. It's definitive proof that he steps up his game when his team needs him most, and it could make him the most clutch playoff player ever.

Not only that, this year McDavid is threatening to pass Wayne Gretzky for the most points in one playoff run. Gretzky currently holds the record with 47 points in a playoff, and currently McDavid is within striking distance with 41.

If the Oilers can close this lead out in Game 5 to drag the series back to Alberta, things may begin to get very interesting for their comeback chances. Even down 0-3 the Oilers' belief never seemed to wane, and now it's looking like a series comeback could actually be possible.
