Moments ago, news broke that Buffalo Sabres Head Coach Don Granato has been fined a whopping $25K for unprofessional conduct towards the referees during the team's last game against the Florida Panthers.

Granato received a bench minor penalty during the play, and according to other sources, the NHL announced the fine right after the coach had spoken to the media post-game. According to reports, Granato was barking at the referees after a call against the Sabres, and was assessed a minor penalty.

Moments after Granato was fined, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe also took a $25K fine. Keefe was given a major penalty and ejection for similar actions, continuously barking at the referees after a horrible tripping call on Mitch Marner.

Clearly, the NHL is cracking down on its head coaches and their conduct towards the officials during games. Neither coach even disparaged the referees in their post game comments, just on the ice. With these two harsh fines, coaches will be much more cautious of how they're speaking to the referees in the coming games.
