Several months after undergoing double hip-surgery, Matt Murray is beginning to work his way back and has now re-joined the Leafs at practice.

The Maple Leafs still have goaltending questions heading into the playoffs looking to avoid yet another disappointment. Ilya Samsonov has struggled badly enough to be sent to the AHL, and the young Joseph Woll has missed significant time with injury. Arguably, the best goalie for the Leafs this season was Martin Jones. Seeing Matt Murray, a two-time Stanley Cup Champion warming up before practice to make a return will be a welcome sight for Toronto.

That said, Matt Murray has fallen a long way since his two Stanley Cup victories with the Penguins in their dynasty days. Murray struggled greatly with the Ottawa Senators, and was just okay with the Leafs, posting a .903 save percentage in 26 games before being knocked out with injury.

If Matt Murray can make a return, it'll certainly make things interesting for the Leafs and their goalie options. It's a long shot, but if he can get back to his game - he can be a game changer for the team. More likely however, it's a situation like Jack Campbell, where they just don't trust him enough to make a meaningful start no matter what.
