Some Vancouver reporters have shown some surprise about the decision to depart with Yeo. He was hired two years ago during Bruce Boudreau's tenure, but stayed on board when Rick Tocchet took over the team. Yeo had been overseeing the team's much improved penalty kill this season, and has the experience of being a head coach himself, making this a very surprising move.
Perhaps Tocchet wanted to hear a different voice and had a change in mind for his coaching staff, and still wants to better the team after an encouraging season. On the other hand, Yeo could be looking for another opportunity in the NHL. Yeo has been associated with the Toronto Maple Leafs because of his previous associated with Craig Berube in St. Louis.
At the very least, this change will give Rick Tocchet an ability to bring a new colleague to his staff - a right that he's earned after a very successful season.
After taking the Oilers to a seven game series without their starting goalie Thatcher Demko and Brock Boeser, things are looking up for the Canucks team for the first time in a while. They'll be something to look out next season, and could now make an interesting addition to their bench staff as well.
