Edmonton Oilers rookie goaltender set to steal Jack Campbell's spot
There is little depth between the pipes for the Edmonton Oilers at the moment, and they rely heavily on Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard to guard the crease.
During
Jack Campbell's time in the American Hockey League, the Oilers will need to consider all their options.
A good example of this is Bakersfield Condors prospect
Olivier Rodrigue, who should get a look in the NHL this season. Among the Oilers' goaltending prospects, Rodrigue stands out as one of the best.
As a backup in his first two seasons in the AHL, the 2018 6th-round pick struggled.
In 2020-2021, he had a 2.99 GAA and a .894 save percentage, and in 2021-2022, he had a 3.09 GAA and a .886 save percentage.
His performance has improved since his arrival, and he has shown an upside not seen before.
He had a 2.77 GAA and a .912 save percentage last season and has continued to improve with a 2.00 GAA and a .942 save percentage this season.
With so much chaos in the goalie ranks lately, it seems pertinent that the team should consider giving Rodrigue a shot at a spot on the Oilers, even if serving just as a temporary call-up to see what he's made of.
