Edmonton Oilers Close To Signing Major NCAA Prospect
Earlier this evening, it was revealed that the Edmonton Oilers are close to signing top prospect Shane Lachance to an entry level contract
The 21-year-old forward is in his second season with Boston University showing great promise in his game as he has played seventeen games so far this season, scoring seven goals with 11 assists for 18 points.
This pace will certainly pass his previous year of 40 games, with 13 goals for 27 points. The son of former NHLer Scott Lachance stands at six foot five and 218 lbs and would likely fulfill a need in the bottom 6 or on the third line and would give the team much needed size and physicality.
Oilers Will Be Active On the Trade Market
General manager Stan Bowman has several options for the Oilers that could solve some of their problems internally.
With Lachance growing and developing with Boston University and the Bakersfield Condors possessing several prospects that appeared to be almost NHL ready, the Oilers may be able to fulfill some their needs without sacrificing abundant draft picks or prospects if the costs are too high.
Players like Matthew Savoie and Noah Philp are potential call ups that may see the Oilers before the trade deadline as the team continues to access their talent. Players have shown steps in their game and may give Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch a second look at their depth.
Through 29 games, Savoie has nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points along with 14 penalty minutes. Philp has seen his game rise as of late and has played 26 games, scoring eight goals with eight assists for 16 points and has 19 penalty minutes.
In the end, the Oilers will still be active looking through the trade market for weeks that would help the team solidify a playoff spot and go on another long run potentially to another Stanley Cup final.
