It appears that the acquisition of Connor Brown has taken a turn for the worse as the Edmonton Oilers forward sustained another injury during the game against Dallas. It seemed that, after taking a face-off in the Dallas end, Brown suffered a leg injury, potentially to his knee. He skated off the ice and did not return for the third period.

General Manager Ken Holland was attempting to recapture the magic that he had with Connor McDavid when both men played for the Erie Otters and were linemates. However, since his debut, Brown has not recorded any points and has a -5 rating going into the contest against Dallas.

The decision now is whether to place him on long-term injury reserve, depending on the severity of his injury, where his salary cap hit will not count. The bigger issue is the unusual contract he has, which includes $3.225 million in performance bonuses, bringing his total contract value for the year to $4 million.

To qualify for this bonus, he must play a maximum of 10 games this season. If he achieves this bonus, the overage will carry over into next year's salary cap, potentially eating up almost $3 million.

The Oilers have a major decision to make, and I expect it to be made within the next 24 hours.
