With the Pittsburgh Penguins falling out of the playoff picture once again with their ageing core, it may finally be time for the team to sell off their legendary players and star a rebuild - and that would include Sidney Crosby.

According to the New World Oilers Podcast, there are rumours stirring that Crosby would be open to waiving his no-trade clause with Pittsburgh for only two teams, both in the western conference. Colorado is rumoured to be one of the teams, likely due to his link with Nathan Mackinnon - but the other team could potentially be the Edmonton Oilers.

It would make sense the Crosby would be interested in joining this edition of the Edmonton Oilers, to have an opportunity to play with McDavid and contribute to a team destined for a long playoff run.

Crosby's now 36 years old but still isn't showing any signs of slowing down. In 46 games this season, he has an incredible 27 goals and 50 points. Clearly one of the best players of all time, Crosby may want one more shot near the end of his career to play for a Stanley cup contender, something that just isn't possible anymore in Pittsburgh. With a salary of $8.7M, moving Crosby's contract could prove to be tough, but would be well worth it for any team involved. He would also command an absolute king's ransom in trade assets.
