Earlier this season, young Oilers forward Dylan Holloway sustained an injury that kept him out of the lineup for most of the year until this point. Just before the All-Star break, Holloway was able to return to the lineup for a few games, before he was once again sent down the AHL.

It was assumed that Holloway would continue to ramp up and play games with Bakersfield, but he's seemingly been missing from the lineup every game so far.

Fans on social media have begun to doubt entirely that Holloway reported to Bakersfield at all. It seems most likely that the Oilers made the roster solely to gain the minuscule amount of cap space they can by sending Holloway to the AHL for just a few days. On this layoff, Holloway is probably on a beach somewhere and has been asked not to post any photos on social media.

This roster move made to save salary cap and clearly wasn't a reassignment for play, which makes this a clear circumvention of the cap by the Oilers. It's still lowkey, and definitely won't be penalized by the league, making this an overall savvy move by Edmonton and a well deserved break for Holloway.
