Insider says Oiler has played his last game in Edmonton
Earlier today, news broke that the Edmonton Oilers are looking to trade their former first round draft pick, Phillip Broberg. Originally selected 8th overall, he's still just 22 years old - but just can't develop fast enough to fit the Oilers' window of contention.
Now, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of the Athletic is saying this process could move quickly, and Broberg has already played his last game in Edmonton.
To help with the process, the Oilers have granted Broberg and his agent permission to foster a trade with another team. It's currently believed that the Oilers are looking to make a 'hockey trade' and acquire a similar player who they believe can have more impact on the roster.
It's always disappointing when a team needs to move on from a formerly high ranked prospect, but the Oilers need to be aggressive in the market to get their team back into a playoff spot. Hopefully, Holland and the front office can pull off a good-value deal that can help us more than Broberg's 0 points in 10 games.
