Earlier this season when the Oilers sent down Jack Campbell and were near last place in the standings, the team was in desperate need of goaltending in a trade. Since the Oilers have turned it around, their priorities shifted to looking at forwards or defence at the deadline. Now, they could be circling back on goaltending, and Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the Oilers have serious interest in adding Marc-Andre Fleury.

»Elliotte Friedman believes the Edmonton Oilers have serious interest in G Marc-Andre Fleury.» Said the Mug in an Instagram post.

Earlier this week, insider Frank Seravalli also connected the Oilers to be interesting in Fleury as a backup or tandem goalie. He reported there's a good chance Fleury is traded to a contender in likely his last year, and he could be moved for as little as a third round draft pick.

As a living legend of a goaltender, Fleury would bring immense value to the Oilers. Although Skinner and Pickard have proven to be a competitive tandem, adding Fleury would bring incredible playoff experience to the team and added stability in the crease in case of an injury, or if Skinner struggles again.

Now 39 years old, the three-time cup champion is having his first real down season with a 2.95 GAA and .897 save percentage in 23 games. Fleury has a manageable contract of just $3.5M, and Minnesota would likely retain salary to move him. At the trade deadline, it would be an incredible move for the Oilers to bring in Fleury as a veteran backup - all he needs to do is waive his no-trade clause.
