In an effort to help Jack Campbell in the AHL, the Edmonton Oilers are pulling out all the stops.

During his time with the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2018-2023, the goalie coach helped Elvis Merzlikins quite a bit.

Manny Legace has been granted permission to help Campbell in the AHL for a few days by the Oilers, according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, and has traveled to Bakersfield to join the organization.

Campbell has not fared any better since being transferred to the AHL, posting a 1-4-0 record and a .873 save percentage.

One of those wins came against Henderson Silver Knights, a divisional rival.

It appears Legace was one of the many coaches who helped Campbell over the summer, and the two have a great relationship.

To save Campbell and the team's $5 Million AAV investment in the goalie, seems like a drastic measure, given the Oilers' current state.

«Campbell enjoyed the bond and the relationship and wanted to work with Legace while he is working his way back to the NHL,» continued Friedman. «With all the rumours about trades the Oilers could make, I still do believe it's their first choice to have Campbell re-join the team and improve his play.»

As a goalie for the LA Kings, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, and Carolina Hurricanes, Legace played 365 games in the NHL. In 2002, he won the Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings.

The 50-year-old retired from the NHL in 2012 and was relieved of his duties alongside Brad Larsen in April this past off-season.
