It was clear, prior to this season that many Oilers fans felt that the team should move on from Evan Bouchard as they have stated that he was «useless» and an underperforming defenseman.
With Tyson Barrie no longer in the picture, he was thrusted into the position of #1 offensive defenseman and he began to show his worth.
After a long contract negotiation during the summer, he settled for a two-year $7 million contract extension which he felt was more than adequate for the time being.
Fast forward to this season and his worth is skyrocketing as he was named player of the week for December 8th -14th by the NHLPA.
Bouchard continues to ride high on his numerous point streaks and game-winning goals. He gives his team a great quarterback on the powerplay.
He has played 27 games, scoring 8 goals along with 24 assists for 32 points and he's currently third and total points in the NHL as a defenseman. With production like this, and helping the Oilers offensively, it's clear many are mistaken about him.
Bouchard has become that elite offensive defenseman he was touted about several years ago.
The Oilers will face off against Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers on Saturday December 16th. Game time is 10:00pm eastern.
