Yesterday, news broke that defenceman Phillip Broberg has requested a trade out of Edmonton. Still just 22 years old and with only 79 games played over three seasons, Broberg is looking to play for a team that could give him more consistent ice time.

Fans and analysts are now wondering what the immediate plan may be for Broberg. Recently, Insider Bob Stauffer appeared on the OilersNow show, and revealed that the team plans to send Broberg to the minors tomorrow.

In return, the team is expected to recall a veteran defenceman like Ben Gleason, Jason Demers, or Slater Koekkoek to fill Broberg's depth role.

Another Oilers insider, Jason Gregor, recently suggested that the team simply shouldn't abide by Broberg's trade request at all. If the team sent him to the minors, he could continue his development by playing regular minutes. At 22 years old and drafted 8th overall by the Oilers in 2019, it could be too early to give up on Broberg.

In ten games with the Oilers this season, Broberg has recorded zero points, and has a rating of -2. He's in the final year of his entry-level contract, and when it expires, he'll become a restricted free agent.
