Coming off the third Stanley Cup victory of his career and holding the active Ironman streak for the NHL's most consecutive games played, Phil Kessel still has a high pedigree in this league - and he's still looking for a contract.

Since training camps began this year, it was known that the UFA forward was looking for a guaranteed contract, not a tryout offer. Now still holding out for a deal in December, insider Chris Johnston has provided an update on Kessel's chances of getting a contract this season.

According to Johnston, Kessel is currently living in Arizona and keeping himself in game shape while having ongoing discussions with teams with interest in signing him. Apparently, one team came close to finalizing a deal in October, but it fell apart in the late stages.

Johnston continued on to say Kessel's heart is still in his life as a professional hockey player. He's now relented the necessity of an everyday role, so if a team does sign him, he can be used in the best way for the team. For now, Kessel and all his fans can just hope that one team is serious enough with an offer, and both parties follow through.
