The future for the general manager, Ken Holland, remains murky as he currently sits without a contract after this season. Rumors have been plentiful throughout the Internet regarding his future with the team and what ownership has in store, now that they've installed a new CEO for the Oilers in former player agent Jeff Jackson.

There seemed to be a push for Jackson to put his stamp on the team, as he was rumoured to be the reason why Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson were fired. Both the new head coach, Chris Knoblock, and Oilers legend defenseman Paul Coffey were his choices, and it appeared that Holland did not have much say in the matter.

Fresh rumours have surfaced on the Internet that former NHL player and player agent Sam Gagner was slated to take over the GM role next season, replacing Holland.

However, during the Saturday Headlines segment held by Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet, it was stated that Gagner has turned down the job and is not interested.

With Gagner out of the running, everything goes back to square one, and the Oilers will continue to be guided by the 68-year-old who held the GM job with the Detroit Red Wings for 18 years.
