Current starter Stuart Skinner has played well and given the team a chance to be in the game every night. However, his recent performances are starting to show wear and tear along with fatigue which is drawing concerns for numerous NHL pundits and fans.
The concerns are genuine as Jason Gregor points out it seems that Skinner is leaving himself more vulnerable than normal and is exposing the fatal flaw to the Oilers chances for a long playoff and cup run. The team is essentially one goalie away from complete disaster if Skinner goes down to injury.
Another issue facing the Oilers is their schedule. After having one of the lightest schedules in January in the NHL only playing 13 games, the team now faces an onslaught of games between now and the final game of the season including many back-to-back situations.
This kind of stress will wear on any goaltender and it's clear that the Oilers will need to address this as soon as possible.
As goaltending is a concern across the NHL, and Jack Campbell not appearing to be a viable option, the Oilers will need to do their best to find a solution to help Skinner as the team tries to solidify their playoff spot.
