General manager Stan Bowman continues to scour the league for an upgrade to his forward lines to which the Boston Bruins may have the solution he needs in forward Trent Frederic.
According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff spoke on the Oilersnation Everyday podcast and felt there may be a trade market for the Edmonton Oilers to acquire Frederic as the Bruins may be willing to trade the third liner as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.
Could Trent Frederic be a potential trade option for the Oilers?
Bruins may look elsewhere to acquire a lower cost bottom 6 forward
Seravalli also stated that Frederick has had a few decent seasons in terms of goal production which could drive up his cost which made deter the Bruins from looking at retaining him long term.
The Bruins are also fighting for a playoff spot, and it remains to be seen on whether they will remain in the hunt or fade as the season wears on.
His production has dropped this season compared to last where he has scored seven goals and seven assists for 14 points through 46 games. Frederic was drafted by the Boston Bruins, in the first round 29th pick overall back in 2016.
Adding a player of his caliber as he stands at six foot three 221 pounds, would give valuable size had strength to the Oilers bottom six.
The Oilers have become known in the NHL as the team that hits the least and adding Frederic would certainly help change that narrative as he is built for playoff hockey.
He is currently on the last year of his deal that's worth $2.3 million and likely would not take a significant portion of draft capital or assets to acquire his services.
Oilers looking at all avenues to upgrade their forwards
The Oilers are currently evaluating their talent especially from the Bakersfield Condors as they have called up
Noah Philp for the next several games.
If Philp works out and gives the Oilers what they need then it may reduce the need to go outside of the market to shore up their center position.
General manager Stan Bowman will do his due diligence and if he feels that Frederic would be an option to help the Oilers, it's unlikely he will pass on this playoff performer.
The Oilers are currently on their three-game road trip where they are facing off against the avalanche an on Saturday January 18th against the Vancouver Canucks.
