The Edmonton Oilers already have one major advantage to re-signing Connor McDavid next offseason: CEO Jeff Jackson used to be Connor McDavid's agent, and deeply knows his plans.

Just before the Oilers hired Stan Bowman, Jeff Jackson made some comments that are now extremely interesting in wake of the Draisaitl extension. Jackson says the two are the closest friends and confidants with a strong belief that they can win together.

»Look, these guys are very close friends. They're confidants of each other, they share lots. I know that because I was with Connor for years as his agent, and I know the deep relationship that Leon and Connor have. There's probably going to be a time where we sit down with both of them and chat.

Connor's not going to be involved in a negotiation involving Leon, but . . . I'm sure we're gonna meet and talk about things, and not do it in a vacuum.»

With the news coming today then that Leon Draisaitl is signed long-term, everyone in the hockey world knows that it's a harbinger of Connor McDavid being extended next offseason. With their core players locked up long term, the Oilers will be contending for the Stanley Cup every season as long as Connor and Leon are in their prime.
