Connor McDavid is a proven superstar on and off the ice. As he's grown into the best player in the league with Edmonton, he's given back to the community in numerous ways. The most memorable way was McDavid and the Oilers' close relationship with Ben Stelter, a six year old super-fan who passed away from battling cancer in the summer of 2022. After Ben's passing, McDavid has kept up with Foundation in his memory, and was a part of an announcement yesterday for the construction of a medical facility named after Ben Stelter.

Connor McDavid even personally checked in on Ben's father Mike, who is also battling cancer. McDavid checked in on Mike in Pennsylvania to see the kind of treatment facility they're going to build in Ben's name in Edmonton. The Ben Stelter Proton Facility and Neuroscience Centre of Excellence will offer Proton Therapy treatment, a newer kind of cancer treatment not available anywhere else in Canada.

«I got to see the facility in Pennsylvania earlier this year and they were taking good care of Mike. It's truly as state-of-the-art facility they have and I'm super excited that they want to bring it to Alberta. This is something that is close to my heart. Cancer is something that affects all of us.»
-Connor McDavid

It's incredible to see McDavid give back to the city of Edmonton, and to do so by continuing the relationship he had with super fan Ben.
