Even with his goal production down, McDavid has had an incredible season, he currently has played 75 games, with 30 two goals and 100 assists for 132 points.
After the game, McDavid had an incredible post-game interview with Oilers reporter Gene Principe where he realized the gravity of his achievement. The three other players to reach 100 assists are truly special players, and McDavid was amazingly modest in recognizing his success, and humbly honoured by the fans support. His reaction was that of a true veteran, mostly just dialled in on the playoffs. It was a fantastic moment from a player bound to be remembered as one of the best to ever play.
He now joins Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr who also hold this phenomenal stat. Mcdavid's season had taken a dramatic turn around for the better after the team suffered for the first month and 1/2 with the worst start in recent memory.
Since the hiring of head coach Kris Knoblauch and Oilers legend assistant coach Paul Coffey. With both men behind the bench and Mcdavid and the leadership group back on track, their season was saved and the team is securely in a playoff spot with a few points behind the Vancouver Canucks for first in the Pacific.
The Oilers still have two games remaining and in an updated score, they're currently winning nine dash one against the sharks with one period left to play. McDavid will have ample time to add to his total then continue his great season.
