Former NHL player Warren Rychel has been promoted to the director of pro scouting after spending the last three years with the Oilers. Zach Kassian, a former fan favourite Oilers forward, has joined on as a pro scout as well and will be residing in Ontario. The promotion of Rychel is being accepted well by fans who approve of his work, and every Oilers fan is thrilled to see Kassian back in the organization. Both hires are great, but potentially expected moves.
However, Jeff Jackson made some other shrewd additions to the front office staff. Dominik Zrim will be joining the group as Director of Hockey Strategy. Zrim's spent time with the Blackhawks and Sharks organization, but is most known for developing the incredible website CapFriendly.
The Oilers also formally announced the hiring of 23 year old Erik Elenz as a Video Coach and Analytics contributor. He's already spent two seasons with the Seattle Kraken's AHL affiliate, and as young as he is, it's fair to say he's an analytics prodigy.
Many Oilers fans have greatly praised the hiring on social media. It's great to see the new regime of Oilers leadership bring in up-and-coming contributors to the sport and unique voices, instead of hiring the same old boys club - outside of one significant position. The future of the Oilers looks extremely bright with their front office and on-ice roster in the best place it's been in quite some time.
