Each team will have four different types of jerseys available: Authentic Pro, Premium, Breakaway, and a Practice jersey. The Authentic Pro edition is an exact replica of on-ice jerseys, while the Premiuim, Breakaway, and Practice jerseys are budget options.
The price points for each line of jersey has still increased with the launch of the Fanatics line, which has a reputation for actually being cheap. According to David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, the Authentic Pro jerseys will be up to $500 CAD. Even the premium will be $250 CAD with a name and number on the jersey. The practice jersey is the cheapest at $140. In some markets, the prices seem to be much higher too.
While NHL jerseys will still be manufactured in the same factory in Quebec that they always have, many fans have plenty of concerns about Fanatics. The brand as a whole aims to make budget options in comparison to previous jerseys, with cheaper material and pressing on patches instead of stitching. Fanatics also took over MLB jerseys in the last year, and their rollout was disastrous with multiple players making complaints.
Plenty of fans took to social media to express their shock and disappointment with the Fanatics announcement.
So far there seems to be plenty of concerning trends with the introduction of Fanatics to the NHL, but hopefully it's better than it seems. Regardless of how Fanatics is received, they're under contract as the NHL's jersey partner for the next 10 seasons.
