Kane was pictured after surgery in a hospital bed and seemed to be in good spirits, giving a thumbs up the camera. He underwent an incredibly complex surgery to correct a total of six different injuries.
While speaking to the media at the beginning of training camp, Evander Kane and Stan Bowman shed more light on the extent of his injuries. Kane had previously revealed that he was playing through a sports hernia, but he actually played through two hernias, two torn abductors, and two torn muscles.
Kane admitted himself that he's «getting a lot done», but still said he hopes to be able to return this season. Recovery time for a hernia surgery could only be a few weeks, but Kane's other significant injuries really complicate his recovery. Stan Bowman said that Kane will be out indefinitely, and one prominent online sports doctor said that Kane will certainly be out for the whole year.
It's difficult and disappointing to lose a quality player like Kane in a season where the Edmonton Oilers expect to contend for the Stanley Cup, but this surgery was long overdue. Kane's injuries were clearly impacting his play through the season and in the playoffs, and if this surgery can get him back to being the explosive power forward he's been in the past, the Oilers will be thankful.
