McDavid was invited to an event for EA's NHL 25 Video Game, where players revealed their overall ratings for the year. McDavid was the highest ranked player in the league at 97 overall, but he wanted to know where the other 3 points were.
McDavid didn't directly say it, but he's definitely insinuating that he could be one of the players to receive a rating of 99. His individual scoring stats and awards make it unquestionable - he's easily the best player in the NHL currently and may be the most talented of all time. The next milestone to watch for McDavid this upcoming season will be recording his 1000th career point, and he could be the third fastest player in history to do so.
Aside from McDavid, no other player was too pressed about their ratings. Leon Draisaitl and Auston Matthews were evenly rated at 95, both very happy with their rating. Nathan MacKinnon wondered why he didn't increase in rating from last year, and Sidney Crosby hilariously asked why he went down one point. It was a great light hearted event for the NHL's biggest stars to kind of rank themselves against each other.
Connor McDavid may just end up getting his 99 overall rating next year if he has the season fans are expecting him to. McDavid's always had a way of responding to criticism throughout his career. After Matthews scored 60 goals, McDavid scored more the next year. When doubted that he could perform in the playoffs, McDavid put the team on his back for a historic run. Now just one game away from the Stanley Cup last year, McDavid will surely come out on fire this season.
