Edmonton Oilers fans are among the most passionate in all of hockey, and they never shy away from letting the team know what they think. Now, Oilers fans attention has turned to the guest anthem singer and country musician Brett Kissel.

Simply put, the Oilers seem to have a horrific record every time Kissel sings the national anthem. It's nothing personal towards Kissel, but Oilers fans just don't want him singing the anthem anymore. Nearly 2,000 Oilers fans have signed the petition below, and even Brett Kissel himself has now responded.

»Since he started his performances, our beloved Oilers have not won a single playoff game. While correlation does not necessarily imply causation, this pattern is disconcerting for many fans like myself who are desperate to see our team win. This petition does not aim to discredit Brett Kissel's talent or contributions as an artist but seeks a change in hopes of breaking this perceived Kissel curse.'»

The petition actually worked, and Brett Kissel responded with a post on social media vowing to never play the national anthem in Edmonton again. He did have a little fun with it, blaming himself for Kopitar's overtime goal, and the playoff loss to Carolina in 2006.

Now without the Kissel curse, the Oilers only have to hold themselves accountable for their playoff performances on home ice.

This isn't the first time either that Oilers fans have petitioned their ownership this season. This year along with many others, fans petitioned to change the Oilers playoff broadcast team to include Jack Michaels - but that petition unfortunately didn't prove to be effective.
