Many Oilers fans across the country are celebrating the signing of Leon Draisaitl to his new eight-year deal worth $112 million to which his fiancé Celeste Desjardins broke her silence and sent a heartwarming message to him.

Her excitement and that sheer joy for her fiancé can be seen in her message. It also shows that both feel that Edmonton is the place they want to remain and build a life together. Desjardins is a Canadian actor who has played in numerous movies especially many Hallmarks Christmas movies.

Some fans created some rumours that because Celeste is an actor, Draisaitl was destined to sign in California to further her career. Seeing her fully on board with the future in Edmonton is incredible to see!

Rumors of this contract were building over the past couple of weeks especially when general manager Stan Bowman was hired and Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson explained that Draisaitl's contract was top priority.

Having this major piece of the core locked up long term is great for the team and the community as he has immersed himself with the Oilers and will continue to lead them. The next step for the Oilers is to get Evan Bouchard signed to a long-term contract which may prove tricky since he had an 82-point season last year and was a dominant force throughout the playoffs.

They will have to work on their salary cap to make sure it'll all fit especially with Connor McDavid's contract looming in the background after next summer. One thing for certain with Draisaitl done, it gives the Oilers an anchor that they can work with as they attempt to sign the remaining players.
