Edmonton Journal writer Jim Matheson reported that the Oilers have offered Klefbom a role as a Swedish Scout in the past. Now that Klefbom's officially announced his retirement, perhaps that offer is back on the table.
Klefbom was recently interviewed by a Swedish publication where he confirmed his retirement. He mentioned how mentally difficult it was for him to watch the Oilers at all, which could have been a reason why he declined a scouting job previously. Klefbom briefly mentioned a desire to get back into hockey with an off-ice role, and now that he's beginning to open up about the end of his career, he could be ready to move on.
It would be fantastic to see Klefbom get back within the Oilers organization, as his promising playing career was tragically cut short by a brutal shoulder injury in 2011. He played his last game at just 27 years old after pushing through 378 games in pain, and just couldn't endure any more. He's still only 31 years old, and it would be great to begin the next chapter of his life still with the Oilers.
