Edmonton Oilers need to reach contract extension with young defenceman

It's becoming clear that the Edmonton Oilers have won the trade over the San Jose Sharks as Ty Emberson has become a great addition to the roster to which Oilers pundits plea for a long term deal to be signed.

During his last game against the Los Angeles Kings, Oilersnation Everyday podcaster Tyler Yaremchuk revealed several Oilers pundits feel that the organization should lock him in long term before the playoffs as he has shown some great play and performances as a member of the Oilers.

New Emberson contract extension looming with experts declaring a win

Many Oilers fans and experts feel that the team has won the trade that occurred earlier last summer when the Oilers sent defenseman Cody Ceci and a 2025 third round pick to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Emberson.

As expected, Ty Emberson is definitely better defensively than Cody Ceci.

According to eliteprospects.com, the 24-year-old defencemen who stands at six foot two 194 lbs has been marked as a defensive defenseman and holds a cap hit of $950,000 for one year. He has played 41 games, registered 6 assists and 14 penalty minutes.

As of late comma his game has improved immensely then has become noticeable amongst the fan base.

It's safe to say that the Oilers will likely lock him into a new deal as the team continues to evaluate their defence for the playoffs and will likely make a trade prior to the March trade deadline to shore up that position.

Being only 24 years old and defensemen who tend to blossom later in their career gives the Oilers organization time to see if he would workout and potentially sign him to an extension that would give them cost certainty and depth within their ranks.

Oilers three game road trip begins with another game against Minnesota

Emberson along with his teammates will begin a three-game road trip against western conference opponents as they set to take on the Minnesota Wild. The Oilers will also face off against the Colorado Avalanche and then the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

Game time for the Minnesota Wild contest will take place at 8:30 PM eastern on January 15th.
