Jason Gregor of the Jason Gregor Show wrote in OilersNation that Edmonton Oilers top forward Ryan Nugent Hopkins is having one of the worst years in his career with no signs with a significant turn around.
Nudge can't break out of his season slump
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is on pace for the least productive 5×5 season of his career. He is currently averaging 0.98 points/60. His previous low was 1.12 in 2013. He is on pace for 18 points at 5×5. He had 30 and 39 the past two seasons. He has played 62% of his 613 minutes with McDavid (349 minutes) or Draisaitl (30). Points aren't the only tool to evaluate players, but they need more output from him at 5×5. He's never been highly productive at 5×5, but being on pace for the worst season offensive season of his career 5×5 is disappointing when you factor in he has eight points with McDavid, but only two points in 262 minutes away from him. - Jason Gregor Oilersnation
The 31-year-old forward level of production has continued to drop since his breakout season in 2022-2023 when he played all 82 games, scoring a record high 37 goals with 67 assists for 104 points and was a + 12.
On 1st Colorado goal, Connor was free to take the puck to the net unchallenged because of a Massive hook by rantinen on ryan nugent Hopkins.
This season, he has played 46 games and has scored twelve goals with 15 assists for 27 points and is a + 2. Between the two seasons his overall ice time has not really changed as it hovers around 19 minutes in 10 seconds.
Nudge one of the last remaining of Hall era
During his draft year in 2011, he was part of the
Taylor Hall era which was a flop and was systematically pulled apart over the years. Nugent Hopkins and McDavid are the only two remaining of the Taylor Hall era in the 2010's.
«He's been my favourite player ever since I was a young buck.»
Stuart Skinner on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
It's safe to say the Oilers will be making changes to their front lines especially if Nugent Hopkins cannot fix the issues that's ailing him it allows him to get back on the score sheet on a more consistent basis.
Nudge along with his teammates will be ready at Rogers Place to face off and have a rematch against the Vancouver Canucks as this will be their first game playing them since the McDavid suspension. Perhaps, Nugent Hopkins can find the net and get back to his scoring ways.
