There were multiple saves to which the Hurricanes players could only tip their cap in respect to Skinner, and they were actually classy enough to do so. Multiple times throughout the night, Andrei Svechnikov gave some taps of respect to Stuart Skinner for some incredible saves.
Oilers fans on reddit picked up on Svechnikov giving taps of respect to multiple Oilers players throughout the night. Even though the Oilers took the loss, it was a hard fought battle all night, and it was a great display of true sportsmanship from the Hurricanes star.
Skinner made on insanely acrobatic save in particular that drew shock and awe from the Hurricanes too. Skinner rolled over on his back to rob Martin Necas, which left Shayne Gostisbehere visibly amazed on the bench. It didn't end there either - multiple Hurricanes praised Skinner for his performance in their post game interviews.
After struggling at times to begin this season, this was a massive night for Skinner to make some big saves and gain some confidence. Plenty of other players on the team had a great night too, so despite the loss, it should be something to build upon. Especially against a quality team like the Hurricanes, this is an easier loss to swallow than the one to Chicago.
The Oilers play next on Friday night against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins, at home for their Hall of Fame game. Hopefully the Oilers can steal a win then, because the losses are now beginning to pile up.
