His career began after graduating College in 1995 where he had worked in several major sports networks in Pennsylvania. In in courage to send his voice to multiple leagues in hockey, he landed a role with the Colorado Gold Kings of the WCHL in Colorado Springs. He also spent some time in Alaska covering the Alaska Aces.
Michaels began working on 630 CHED as the play-by-play announcer for the Oilers and would work alongside longtime Oilers insider Bob Stauffer since 2010. His first broadcast on television on Sportsnet happened in December of 2013 when he was a fill in for Kevin Quinn. In January 2021 he had become the new lead play by play announcer for regional Oilers games after replacing Quinn. Since then, he has worked between radio and television.
It's clear that he is a fan favorite and with this move to more television-based broadcast especially hockey night in Canada where the national audience will always watch, this will continue to strengthen him as a great play by play announcer.
According to Sportsnet, he will be working on a combined 77 regional and national Oilers games and will be alongside former NHL player Louie Debrusk and longtime sports net host Gene Principe.
The hosts along with fans are hoping the Oilers can snap out of their 0-3 start to their new season and get back on the winning track and the intensity they played during the playoffs and last season especially in the second-half.
The Oilers will finish their homestand when John Tortorella and his Philadelphia Flyers will come to town kid the game will be held on October 15th and puck drop will be 10:00 PM Eastern.
