Many rumors have been circulating around the web over the past number of days that the Edmonton Oilers are preparing to sign either a PTO or a free agent defenseman that will suit their second pairing needs. Both Stauffer and Seravalli feel that the talent level available is quite thin who include Travis Dermott, Kevin Shattenkirk and Justin Shultz. They feel the Oilers are likely look at a trade that would get them more value.
The Oilers have been spending their entire summer reconfiguring their roster and with the departure of Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Ty Emberson many feel that the Oilers require another more experienced defenseman in their second pairing as the next likely candidate would be either 30-year-old Josh Brown or Emberson.
The organization holds 13 forwards and feels a little top heavy which likely means one forward will be the candidate to be moved in the trade. It seems many NHL teams are beginning to heat up over the past couple of days as PTO deadline is approaching and general managers have a better sense of what's available on the market.
Oilers fans will need to continue to watch to see what Stan Bowman and Jeff Jackson have up their sleeve as management has been doing some excellent work over the past couple of months.
