Seravalli feels that even with the recent trades made between the San Jose Sharks and the Vancouver Canucks may still see the Oilers let both players go. These offer sheets have certainly thrown the Oilers plans into chaos as the team was likely working on deals to try to lock both players in.
According to Puck Pedia, the Oilers still are $5.925 million over the cap and will likely be unable to retain one or both players. General manager Stan Bowman along with CEO Jeff Jackson have attempted to shield the loss of Holloway by picking up Vasily Podkolzin from the Canucks.
The Oilers tried to open some salary by moving Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks which would have a $3.2 million relief. It's believed that Broberg may be too expensive to keep as the offer sheet stands at 4.5 million per season for the next two years.
Both first round picks, Holloway and Broberg were showing promise would have likely improved their game giving a full year with the Oilers coaching staff.
The team which had a strong start to its summer it is now riddled with question marks from the offer sheets, to whether Evander Kane will become a long-term injury reserve candidate as he may head for surgery later this fall.
All eyes will be on Edmonton tomorrow to see if they keep their players or let them go.
