At practice yesterday, the Oilers unveiled a new look lineup that has Connor Brown on the first line, Zach Hyman on the third.
After morning skate, Knoblauch explained that tonight's lines may not hold up for too long, and it's just a matter of experimenting with lines.
Mostly, the Oilers coach highlighted adding more scoring to the third line, and rewarding Brown for quality play.
It's interesting to hear Knoblauch stress that he's trying different combinations to promote player chemistry. Giving players the chance to play together now could help later in the season and in playoffs when injuries force lineup changes.
Also, it's really a reward for a surge in play from veteran forward Connor Brown. Last year his signing looked like a disaster, but in the playoffs he dialled up his game and has continued his level of play this year.
With 10 points in his last 9 games, Connor Brown deserves to be elevated in the lineup, even just for a bit. At least it will build chemistry and give the Oilers more options later this year.
Hopefully Connor Brown can continue his hot streak up on the first line, and Zach Hyman can bring some offensive threat to the third line.
If it all works out, it could give the Oilers three balanced lines to run out at any time.
