In recent weeks, the Edmonton Oilers have had to pivot off their expected plans at the trade deadline. Both Jake Guentzel and Chris Tanev are off the table, and the team may instead look to upgrade on their bottom six and defence. Specifically, the team may look to upgrade on Cody Ceci, and also grab a depth forward with the salary cap space.

Now multiple reports have surfaced connecting the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators in a trade. The Predators could take on Ceci and other assets in exchange for multiple players from the Predators. Ceci's owed just $3.5M in salary annually, but that space can be used in plenty of ways at the trade deadline. According to Jeff Marek, it could happen sooner rather than later.

Jonathan Willis of the Athletic recently explained that the Oilers could move Ceci to the Predators, along with draft picks and prospects, to acquire defenceman Alexandre Carrier and forward Gustav Nyquist. This trade would be compliant with the salary cap, give the Oilers an upgrade on Cody Ceci, and add a scoring veteran centreman to the bottom six in Nyquist.

With these reports surfacing more often and from several sources, there's definitely credence to these rumours. In the coming weeks before the deadline, Oilers fans will closely be watching the Predators and checking for trades.
