Oilers fans have hilarious reaction to amazing defensive play by Nugent-Hopkins
Last night, the Oilers mounted an incredible comeback win against the St. Louis Blues, capped off by an awesome overtime winner from McDavid. However, arguably the best moment for the Oilers was a game-saving back check from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
It was an incredible effort from Nuge to get back and make the defensive play on Robert Thomas to prevent a go-ahead goal, also without taking a penalty. Thomas slowed down to make a deke at the last second, not thinking Nuge was hustling back. Fans in the arena were going crazy for the play, and the best reaction might have been an Oilers fan giving Thomas the finger from behind the net. Toward the end of the video, you'll see the fan making a clear gesture at Thomas.
Nugent-Hopkins' backcheck will be remembered from this game just as much as McDavid's overtime winner, which goes to show that hockey is still the hard-nosed physical game it used to be. Maybe the fan was a little aggressive with his gesture, but the spirit of the fans for Nuge's defensive play was incredible to see.
